Hello again fellow Astig Vegans! It’s Tuesday once again and you know what that means -it’s “Ask Astig Vegan” time. In this episode, I’ll be answering three questions about the recipes on the blog and on the Astig Vegan Cooking playlist on YouTube. Thank you for sending your questions. I love hearing from you and learning about your concerns. If you haven’t sent a question yet, please feel free to send away!
ASK ASTIG VEGAN (tofu, black bean sauce, vegan hotdogs)
“weed x vegan”:
“Pwede pong lagyan ng tofu ?? matry nga” Translates to: “Could I add tofu (in vegan Lumpiang Shanghai)? I want to try it.”
Answer: You could definitely add tofu to the vegan Lumpiang Shanghai recipe. The reason I didn’t is because I’m featuring my aunt’s recipe in this video and I want to respect her recipe by not adding or omitting any ingredient. But by all means, please feel free to experiment and customize the recipe to your own liking.

“Ms M”:
“Alternative for black bean garlic sauce?” (on the Laing recipe)
Answer: I was going to do some research for you when another follower weighed in and answered your question! Basically, you could use Korean soybean miso paste instead of black bean garlic sauce. And that tip came from:
“lynny A.”:
“I’m not vegan but I love vegan laing. My dad makes it but he puts Korean soybean miso paste. I like your recipe, I will share it to my family. I need to be vegan again thank u!”
Thank YOU Lynny!
“Fabie23”:
“Can we buy vegan hotdogs and cheese here in the Philippines? OMG Where!!! Thanks for this!!! This helps so much!” (on the vegan Filipino Spaghetti recipe)
Answer: I’m afraid I’m no longer based in the Philippines. Luckily, I have vegan friends there who told me that they get their vegan meat alternatives from the website, Healthy Options, as well as from Chinatown Binondo. You could also check Rustan’s supermarkets. I hope that helps!
